Let me just say that the La Efrah Half Wig is probably the most natural wig I own and it is super easy to blend! I purchased the La Efrah Half Wig on hairsisters.com for $21.99 in a 1B. I believe I received the wig in 3-5 days. When I first wore the wig, I did not cut or shape it. I left out my hairline which was in a twist out; it blended with the wig effortlessly.  The wig was a little too wild for me so I cut and shaped it so that it would add volume but not length to my natural afro. The pictures in this post are of me wearing the wig after I cut it.

I really like this wig because it is believable, natural and easy to blend. La Efrah has very pretty defined tight curls which looks like 3b/c curls, it is coarse and natural in texture. The wig is fluffy and voluminous but yet lightweight. It is a synthetic medium short length wig. I fluffed the wig to get rid of some of the definition so it would look a little more kinky and realistic. When I wear this wig people assume that it is my own hair.  I have washed this wig in a bin of water with a Shea Moisture shampoo and the curls bounce right back. I like the color but I think it is a tiny bit too light for my natural hair but I do not believe it is that noticeable. I used bobby pins to secure this wig to my head.

Overall, I love how this wig looks. However, I only ended up wearing this wig a few times because I do not really like afro/kinky wigs because I feel like I should just wear my own hair (since my hair is afro-kinky-like). I like to wear wigs that look nothing like my hair so I can wear styles that are nothing like what my hair looks like just for diversity and versatility. I do recommend this wig if you like this afro/kinky look, I would give this wig a solid B.

Updated Hair Regimen

afro puff on 4b hair

My Hair Regimen:

Sunday Afternoons are Wash Days:

Prepoo/Hot Oil Treatment: With water, extra virgin olive oil (evoo) and conditioner (any conditioner in my collection) and I put on a shower cap and let my hair sit for 30 mins. I do this on all wash days.

Shampoo: I only shampoo when I feel as though I have build up so, 0-2 times a month. I shampoo with Shea Moisture Organic Yucca & Baobab Thickening Shampoo or Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo

Deep Condition: I deep condition every time I shampoo so I would skip cowashing on these days. Sometimes I will just deep condition if I feel as though I need it. I deep condition 1-2 times a month. I deep conditioner with Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing Pak Deep Conditioner ( I use 2 packs).

Cowash:

I cowash my hair when I do not shampoo or deep condition my hair. I still prepoo/hot oil treat my hair before a cowash.

a) When my hair is very dry: I co wash with Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Conditioner

b) When my hair is dry: I co wash with Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Shine Conditioner

c) When my hair is normal: I co wash with Tresemme Naturals Conditioner

After my hair is washed I gently pressed out the excess water with an old shirt. I usually let my hair air dry for 30- 60 mins.

Moisturize:

This is how I moisturize my hair after I wash it:

1. Spray hair lightly with water or Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Hold & Shine Moisture Mist

2. Apply Shea Moisture Organic Raw Shea Butter Restorative Conditioner or Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk

3. Apply Extra Virgin Olive Oil  to seal in moisture.

Now I put 20-30 2 strand twists in my hair. I detangle with my hands, a wide tooth comb, or denman brush. I then wrap my hair with a satin scarf and put on my satin bonnet then off to bed!

Style (Everyday):

In the mornings, I spray Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Hold & Shine Moisture Mist  I apply gel or Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque to my edges and I wrap a scarf around my edges for 30 mins.

Then I unwrap my  scarf and either put on a wig cap, then a half wig and a head band OR I carefully undo my twists, with oil, separate, fluff and put my hair into an afro puff or bun.

Daily Moisturizing:

This is how I moisturize my hair Monday-Saturday in the afternoons/evenings.

1. When my hair is very dry: spray with water, apply creamy moisturizer, put on shower cap, leave on for 1 hour then seal with evoo.

2. When my hair is dry: in a spray bottle I mix everything from (1.) and spray it on my hair, put on shower cap, leave on for 30 mins then apply evoo.

3. When my hair is normal: spray my hair with water, put on shower cap, leave on for 15 mins., then apply oil.

Trim:

I trim whenever I see a lot of shedding, breakage and knots. I put 20-25 2 strand twists in my hair and use Conair scissors to snip any of my ends that look damaged.

Here is my old regimen, https://sunlightbeauty.wordpress.com/2012/01/29/natural-hair-regime-sample/ for when I was wearing cornrows with extensions as a protective style. What is your hair regimen?  Is your hair regimen as complicated as mine? What are your favorite products to use on your hair?

Cons:

My hair gets crunchy and slightly hard if I leave it on for more than 30 minutes.

Conditioner can only be left in for 2-3 minutes

evoo

I add Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO) to Tresemme Naturals in a small bowl (see picture below). This makes it thicker/more moisturizing so I use it as Deep Conditioner.

conditioner and evoo

Tresemme Naturals and EVOO

I also add water and a little bit of EVOO to Tresemme Naturals Conditioner to make it into a liquid, put it in a spray bottle and use it as a Twist/Braid Spray, Everyday Moisture Spray and Detangler.

In addition, I use Tresmme Naturals Condition as a Cleanser when I Co-wash and of course I use Tresemme Naturals as Conditioner after I Shampoo my hair.

All in all I love Tresemme Naturals for its versatility, I have incorporated it into my Hair Regimen.

Oh no! I’m late!

I have so much going on lately with work, my internship and putting together my professional portfolio so I need as much sleep as I can get. Usually it takes me at least a solid hour just to do my hair and makeup. I don’t have that time in the morning anymore, so I have been condensing my makeup and hair routine into 15 mins. So here is what I did to achieve this look today in the morning when I was running a little late.

Eyebrows: Jordana brown eyebrow pencil & Bobbi Brown concealer (chestnut)

Lashes: Loreal Carbon Black Mascara

Under-eye/above lip: Bobbi Brown concealer (chestnut)

Face: NYC Primer mixed with Makeup Forever Face & Body Foundation #48 & MAC Blotting Power (deepdark) on top on the t-zone area

Cheeks: Covergirl Queen Collection Bronzer (Ebony Breeze)

Lips: NYC Midtown Mulberry lipgloss

Then I set my face with Elf’s setting spray.

Hair:

I braided my hair in two sections overnight and took them out in the morning. I created the volume by combing and fluffing my hair with a widetooth comb. Then I put on a black headband from Claire’s.

$16 Weave In Less Than 5 Minutes

I love my new hair! It is a half wig from hairsisters.com called Outre Synthetic Half Wig Quick Weave Yasmine (futura). Here is the link for the hair, http://hairsisters.com/en/half-wigs-fullcap/quick-collection/outre-synthetic-half-wig-quick-weave-yasmine-futura/index.php . I got my hair in 1B which is the hair color I usually purchase.

The wig was only $15.99 and hairsisters.com ships so fast. I received it a couple days after I purchased it online! Today is the first and only time I have worn this half wig and I love it so much!!

It doesn’t look natural in the sense that it does not look as though it is my real hair but it looks like I have a really nice sew in weave with possibly Remi hair quality. Also, the Yasmine wig is not super shiny like many synthetic wigs. If your hair is relaxed or straight you maybe able to blend your hair with this wig and that could make it look a lot more natural. My hair is natural so I would have to flat iron my hair to blend it and I don’t like to use heat on my hair so I used a headband from Claire’s to camouflage the wig-line.

Underneath my wig my hair is in several 2 strand twists and I put a wig cap on top of that. Then I put on the wig. I do not use the pre-attached combs on the wig because they tend to break my hair so I secured my half wig with bobby pins.

I absolutely love this wig. It is so affordable, easy to secure and style. This Yasmine half wig takes minutes to install and it looks like my body wave 16inch from Milky Way weave style that I usually wear. I actually prefer to wear this half wig and many others because I like the versatility of changing my hairstyle and it puts little to no stress on my natural hair.
