$25 weekly grocery budget!

affordable clean eating

Healthy eating seems to get a bad rep for being very expensive. I will admit as a single person some of my Whole Foods weekly trips can rack up to $100! But that is mainly because I am either overbuying or getting all the bells and whistles. Personally, as a clean eater and single person I spend $50-$75 weekly on groceries. I shop at Whole Foods and sometimes at Trader Joe’s, Starmarket and Stop & Shop (local grocery chains in New England). However, a couple weeks ago as an experiment I decided that I would go to Trader Joes & Star Market and try my best to spend only  $25.

spend 25 a week on groceries

Keep in mind I had a few groceries at home and I assume you are not going grocery shopping with an empty kitchen! Your list will range depending on what you already have at home. This technique can work for a range of people but will really be helpful for healthy eaters who have bits and bobs of healthy food in their kitchen! Also you can switch up the order of the meals. I personally do not mind eating the same meal for 1 to 3 days. Good Luck meal prepping!

What money-saving tips, meal prep or menu ideas do you have up your sleeve?

Get Fit with Simply Barre & Paleo Life!

simply barre

Last weekend I felt the burn at Simply Barre in South Boston with a group of fellow bloggers! Before the barre class I grabbed an iced latte and I was just admiring how beautiful South Boston is. Southie is so easy to get to. You just hop on the red line get off at Broadway one stop away from South Station!

When I arrived at Simply Barre my instant thought was, “this place is beautiful!” I liked how the studio had a mini fitness store in the front. I love working out and shopping! Anyhoo, I was greeted by Elissa from Style-Wire, who was hosting the barre class. I hung up my coat and put my purse in one of their lockers.

Although I have lost about 30 lbs and I workout regularly I will admit I was very nervous about taking this class. I was scared I wouldn’t be able to keep up or do any of the moves but boy was I wrong!

For those of you who do not know what barre is, it is a ballet, yoga, Pilates inspired workout. It uses a ballet barre and a combination of small movements with a lot of reps.

Now… I could feel the burn during this class! The instructor was very encouraging and she came around to help me with my form which I really liked! I loved how the class incorporated hand weights, resistance bands and exercise balls. I am the weakest in my ab area but surprisingly my favorite part of the class was the ab work!

I just want to say if you are a beginner or have the same body type as me do not be afraid to try barre! I will tell you beauties the following days after my barre class I could feel it in my whole body and I loved it!

Weight Loss Secret: Mio Water Enhancer

It is not a secret that soda and juice can sabotage your weight loss goals, but it can be extremely boring to continuously drink only water. I personally am not a fan of soda or juice so I don’t get bored as easily with water as other dieters do. However, I do like to flavor my water with citrus occasionally to spruce up the plain taste.

I started using  Mio Liquid Water Enhancers about a year ago. They taste amazing! My favorite flavor is Berry Pomegranate. I always keep some in my purse and flavor my water with it everyday. You can control the amount that you add, so you can make your water mildly flavored or super flavored. Mio Liquid Enhancers are a nice medium between juice and water.

A lot of my friends have tried my Mio flavors that I keep with me and they are always asking me to flavor their water when we eat together..that sounds kind of weird..but it’s true.

Try Mio to help you lose weight or if you just want to enhance the flavor of your water!

Stocking My Fridge

“You can eat anything you want!”  You will always hear this in the WW’s meetings or from any member and it’s pretty much true. You can eat basically anything you want on Weight Watchers as long as you have enough points. My guilty pleasure is fast food. I love Chinese take out, McDonald’s and Burger King…yum! So far I love that I can eat all my favorite foods…in moderation. A Big Mac is 12 points which is on the high side but if I want it, I can have it. This helps because I doubt I will have that deprived feeling that usually comes with dieting. At some point in life you have to be honest with yourself. Are you really going to eat carrots and humus for the rest of your life? Or do you want to eat that along with some crab ragoon. Being honest with yourself may lead to more success in your diet plan.

Weight Watchers has a long list of groceries that they suggest you should have to start off. I slimmed down the list to my essentials.

Here’s my 1st week grocery list:
